Women’s art show returns to Josephy Center
“This is our most popular show of the year,” Executive Director Cheryl Coughlan said. “We always get a ton of entries and it gives us an opportunity to feature some of the women artists in our community who have never been in one of our shows before.”
More than 30 women will be featured in this year’s exhibit, according to the press release for the show.
“I’ve never done a Women’s Art Show before and I’m thrilled (by) our line-up for the month of March,” Resource Coordinator Casey Holmes said. “It will be interesting to see the community’s response. I think everyone will be really pleased.”
The exhibit, which opened with a costume contest last week, coincides with several special programs put on in partnership with Soroptomist of Enterprise.
To help kick things off, the Josephy Center will host a screening of “The Suffragette,” a women’s suffrage film. The movie showing will be 7 p.m. today.
Next, there will be a Women’s Open Mic Night from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. March 12.
The Wallowa Valley Music Alliance’s event, “Women, Words and Music,” will be “back by popular demand,” according to the press release. The event, which starts at 7 p.m. March 25, involves songs and readings by a variety of performers.
The Josephy Center will also host free women-related Brown Bag discussions this month. “Art History” features Cheryl Coughlan on March 14. “Women’s Health” features Dr. Rene Grandi on March 21. All Brown Bag events are at noon.
In terms of classes, Lead Instructor Mellica McIntire will offer Abstract Painting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 18. Jennifer Klimsza will offer her Wine and Painting Class from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 11.
