Eight days of fun
This year’s activity schedule is based on approximate times, which are subject to change. The livestock and horse classes will vary depending on the class size, according to the fair’s web page, www.extension.oregonstate.edu/wallowa/fair.
To kick off the activities on Aug. 5, the food booth opens at 8 a.m., followed by the flag raising at 8:30 a.m. The annual 4-H Dog Show begins at 9 a.m. The food booth closes when the dog show ends, according to the schedule posted online.
During the rest of the week, the food booth will be open throughout the day with open and close times varying from day to day.
Horses are the main focus of the first few days of the fair. The 4-H Horse Show will begin at 8 a.m. from Aug. 6 through Aug. 8. Grand Champion Horse Classes will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 and Aug. 7. The Horse Awards Program will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 8
Cloverleaf Hall, where there will be a display of the coloring contest entries, opens to the public at 10 a.m. Aug. 9.
Benny Beaver Day at the Fair will be Aug. 10. The Oregon State University mascot will be present at the fair to greet families.
Breakfasts will be served from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Aug. 10 through Aug. 12. There will be an ice cream and pie social at the stage near the indoor arena. Wallowa County granges will serve the ice cream during a Community Service Award presentation.
On Aug. 11, there will be a game of “Bessie Bingo” at 4 p.m., and the evening will conclude with a fair dance at 8 p.m.
Finally, on Aug. 12, games will be available on the grass starting at 11 a.m. The wool and fiber show will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The awards program will be at 4 p.m., with an FFA barbecue served at 4:30 p.m.
