Third Thursday event

Shops in downtown Baker City stay open late on the Third Thursday of each month.


Sumpter Valley train rides

Although the Monday eclipse train is sold out, the Sumpter Valley Railroad will still run its regular schedule on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20.

Round-trips leave McEwen Station at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and from Sumpter at noon. A one-way ride leaves Sumpter Station at 3 p.m. Fares are $21 adults, $18 seniors/military, $12 child (age 5-15), $57 family of two adults and two children.

The McEwen depot is located 23 miles southwest of Baker City on Highway 7. The address is 12259 Huckleberry Loop. For information, visit sumptervalleyrailroad.org or call 541-894-2268.

UNION COUNTY

Free snow cones

Celebrate Carpet One’s 40th anniversary with free snow cones every Saturday of the summer.

Snow cones will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 at 1606 N. Portland St., La Grande.


Moonlight Bike Ride

Enjoy a family or date night during the Moonlight Bike Ride hosted by the La Grande Parks and Rec Advisory Commission on Aug. 19. The ride meets at
7:30 p.m. at the Bi-Mart Parking Lot, 2510 Adams Ave., La Grande. Ride your bike to Foothill Road and back. Helmets and lights are required.

WALLOWA COUNTY

Storytime at Enterprise City Library

Enjoy storytime at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 17 and Aug. 24 at the Enterprise City Library. The library is situated at 101 NE First St., Enterprise. For more information, call 541-426-3906.


Saturday Science at Wallowology

Saturday Science runs from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 19 at the Wallowology Natural History Center, 508 N. Main St., Joseph.

Wallowa County Stock-Growers Ranch Rodeo

Beginning with a breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. Aug. 19, the Ranch Rodeo includes kids activities, dog and horse working and horse races.

Rodeo events officially begin at noon, and the day concludes with a social hour at 6 p.m. and a beef barbecue dinner at 7 p.m. in the Cloverleaf Hall.

Awards will be presented after dinner, followed by a dance featuring live music.

The Wallowa County Fairgrounds and Cloverleaf Hall are located at 668 NW First St., Enterprise.

Take a family-friendly stroll around Wallowa Lake (pictured above) to explore the natural world.

Discovery Walks will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 20 and Aug. 27.

This event is hosted by the Wallowology Natural History Center situated at 508 N. Main St., Joseph.
