Previously organized by Historic Baker City Inc., the annual tour is now put on by Court Appointed Special Advocates of Eastern Oregon. All proceeds will benefit CASA, which trains and supports volunteers who advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Baker, Union and Malheur counties.

Advance tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. A special rate of $10 per person is available to groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased online at eventbrite or by emailing casaeasternoregon@gmail.com, and are also available at Bella Main Street Market, Chamber of Commerce, Crossroads Carnegie Art Center and Compass Real Estate or by calling 541-403-0405.

As a thank you, CASA is offering free tickets to foster families. For more information, call Mary Collard at 541-403-0405.

Tickets can also be purchased the day of the tour, starting at 1 p.m. at the Baer House, 2333 Main St. (Cost is $20 adults, $15 seniors and students.) This is also the spot to redeem tickets for an event map. Refreshments will be provided by Sweet Wife Baking, the Little Bagel Shop and Jackie’s Savory Sweets. The treats are sponsored by Vision Wealth Management.

Participants should allot about three hours for the self-guided tour. Only one of the featured homes has been included in previous years.

“There are some cool new things,” said Mary Collard, executive director for CASA. “We’re not just concentrating on the historic downtown.”

Homes will be from all eras of Baker’s history, and Collard said many homeowners were happy to open their homes to support the local organization.

“All of these people were excited to support CASA in this way,” she said.

Having CASA take over the home tour is fitting, she said. First, “casa” is the Spanish word for “home.” Also, the role of a CASA volunteer is to advocate for a safe, permanent home for children and to help spread joy for the kids served by CASA.

The tour may include extra elements in the future, such as a gingerbread house contest.
